Welcome to The Old Chapel Blog

Hello, I am Gemma Smith and I am the Heritage Officer for the Old Chapel. This blog will provide regular updates on what’s happening with the project. Currently, the renovation is still being undertaken, but it is progressing well and we hope to have the Old Chapel open in Spring 2013.

The Old Chapel will be used by Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School. They will use it for assemblies, prayer, liturgy, reflection and also different aspects of the curriculum such as RE, Music and Drama.

It will be open two weekends a month in line with other heritage attractions in Upminster such as the Windmill and the Upminster Tithe Barn Museum of Nostalgia. There will be temporary exhibitions, open days and family events. The Upcoming Events section of this website will be kept up to date with what’s going on.

      Hi Maggie,

We are open to the public from April-October, every first and third weekend of the month from 2-5.

If you are ever in the area, do let me know, and I can arrange you a viewing if you can’t make those times.

      All the best,

      Gemma

Your office looks too neat Gemma!
I look forward to visiting the Old Chapel on December 17th 2013 for the Volunteer Managers Meeting.

Hi, I just found your website and it does look great, how can that be an office you’re in? All the offices I ever see are cluttered all the way to hell and back. Anyway, I’m going to be very cheeky here and ask, do you have any ex-pupils and/or staff from Corbets Tey School in your congregation? I’m looking for pupils and staff from the 1960′s to early 1970′s who would have known me.

      Hello,

The Chapel isn’t used as a church as such anymore so we don’t have a regular congregation. I run the heritage events that we do here, good luck with your search.

      Gemma
